Spam, most people who have email addresses hate it. Some don’t care. But spam gets irritating. What is spam you ask? It is an email sent to you by companies you don’t even know of and have nothing to do with you. You are considered spammed if you receive tons of these cheesy advertisements that fill up you bulk email folder. It gets worse. These spam emails keep being sent to you and the thousands of other people that these companies have in their email address list. 

If you have an online business, one thing you wouldn’t want to hear is that your advertisements and newsletters are considered as spam. One way to avoid being addressed as a spammer is by creating an opt-in email list. An opt-in email list is a list of email addresses where those who receive your emails have chosen to receive them. Unlike spam, the recipients have a choice, either to receive your newsletters or ezines of not to receive them. 

This way, when you send your advertisements, newsletters and the like, your emails wouldn’t be considered spam. If you’re asking what is all the fuss about spam emails? There are four common mistakes which website designers fall for and could be the reason behind the low traffic on your website.


1.      Poor Navigation Your visitor should be able to easily access content on your website. A website that has poor navigation is not divided properly into a variety of sections. Your visitors need to know where to find information and the site should have various pages and a search engine to find them. Adding to poor navigation is having too many pages, links and tabs on your website. This will result in your visitor having a tiring clicking experience. Every click is an action point which pushes the visitor to think and decide. Decide on actions you want your visitors to take and highlight them. Also, websites which utilize scrolling are becoming popular since they provide a lot of the content on a single page.
2.      No Priority for a Mobile Website More and more users are accessing the internet through their mobile devices rather than their computers. In the years to come, users accessing the net through mobiles will overshadow computer users. A mobile website is responsive and able to fit within the screen of a mobile device. As a business owner, you should aim to create your mobile website first and then, build the conventional site. A mobile website needs to be very focused on scrolling and you need to keep the clicking to a minimum. A responsive website is one that loads within 3 seconds, if it doesn’t, your mobile user will leave the page. This means your website can’t contain any heavy elements.
3.      Crafting Content Incorrectly You want to craft content which connects with your audience. It would be a mistake to use complex jargon’s that would baffle your readers. The content needs to be helpful and hold some value for them. Also, you want to present your content in an easy-to-read manner. If your page is stuffed with words, it won’t look inviting to read. Add a few pictures with the content you put up. A big website problem is over-doing the content. You don’t want to have too much content. Avoid repeating topics and don’t create content just for the sake of creating it.
4.      No Call to Action Almost every page on your site should have a call to action. If the page is presenting products, you want the ‘Buy Now’ button to stand out. Even if the page is providing information, subtly add a call to action. Website visitors like to be directed and a call to action does just that.

What will be your answer about this question, Is traffic the sure way to achieving success online? I dare say No, it is rather traffic and conversion that gives you the real success. (Traffic + Conversion = Success).

It is so sad that people think that once they can drive traffic to their website they automatically make money…but that is not the case. Let me share one of the analogy used by Matt Lloyd, which I think was very beautiful. He likened traffic or ways of driving traffic (face book ads, ppv, bing, google ads etc.) to the engine of a plane and the outward structure to your website and sales funnel. You may have a wonderful and superb engine but if the body or structure of your plane aint light enough to lift off, it will either fly for a bit and crash or it won’t fly at all.

If you really take a good look at it, that is absolutely the truth. Visualize the airplanes that you have boarded or seen, the outward structures or the body are lighter when compared to the engine.  Why? Because the engine is the propelling force that moves the body and if the body is heavy, the engine cannot soar with it.

Therefore, you need to focus on the structure, make sure your website is attractive and easy to load. Make sure that you are giving value to make your readers always wanna come back to you again. In other words be the hunted and not the hunter.Traffic4

Most people spend a whole lot of money driving traffic to their poorly structured and valueless sales funnel and expect to make money, when this doesn’t happen they either quit or run along and join the group of side winders. Note that once people like and trust you, they would buy anything from you because you have become an authority and they will follow you. This trust is built over time and so a lot of effort has to be put into this, but once it is done the benefits are huge and residual.

You have to be able to take the traffic your marketing machine pulls in and send it through a sales process that makes it more valuable to you than the value the market placed on it. And if you don’t have that capability yet, then you need to make some changes.” – Rich Schefren

That is nothing but the truth. In other words if you are spending so much on traffic and the sales funnel is wack…permit me to say that, you are doing something wrong and you need to make some twicks in your sales funnel as your conversion rate is…you know what i mean. If this persists you can get discouraged and will wanna back out because you are making a loss.

So, to prevent this from happening, you need to optimize our conversion funnel quick as possible, in order to maximize your effort.

platforms that do not convert.


Toooooo Many Calls to Action

Just as it is important to give users options (CTAs), it is also important to not give too many requests.

Imagine if your content post has lots of outbound links. Each link is a potential distraction, which means that each link decreases the chance of your users from finishing reading.

Therefore, be selective. Supplementary links are good. Too many are bad, especially if the links go to an external site (not owned by you). Why would you want the traffic to leave your site?
